How to adopt

Are you interested in adding a new best friend to your life? Our foster animals are all current on their vaccinations, and most are already spayed or neutered.

So you think you would like to adopt a pet? Great!

If you see a cat or dog that interests you here, give us a call or stop by at the Adoption Center at the Logansport Mall on Saturday between 11-5 and meet them in person. All our animals are looking for forever homes and lifetime companionship. Fill out and print our application to bring to the Adoption Center with you, or you can fill out one there. You can find the application by clicking here. Bring a photo ID. Our adoption fees are $50 for cats and $80 for dogs. If the pet you adopt isn't yet spade/neutered, you will get a $25 refund once you spay/neuter the animal. The adoption fees help offset our costs of medical care for the animals. When you adopt from us you know that the new pet you are taking home is healthy and is updated on all their shots.

When you ask to adopt a pet, one of our trained volunteers will talk with you and ask you to fill out an adoption application if you haven't already. He or she will ask about your pet history, living situation and a variety of other questions that help us determine if you are a suitable forever home. We may also request (and check) personal references.

While it may seem that we ask a lot of questions, it's only to protect the best interests of your potential pet (and you!). Please understand that many of these animals have been abandoned by previous owners. We never want to put these sweet animals through that again, so we work very hard to make sure that any new pet-owner relationship is going to be loving, stable and forever, and is a perfect match for both you and your potential pet!

But before you adopt, think carefully about your decision. Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment, both for you and the pet. Dogs and cats can live up to (and even beyond) 20 years old. Your new pet will form a very deep bond with you. Remember that while you have your friends, family and the outside world, your pet has only you, and terminating your relationship with your pet for any reason is emotionally devastating to your pet.

Of course, a relationship with a pet is a wonderful, enriching experience, both for you and the pet. Because almost all of our pets have been relinquished by previous owners or found as strays, we want to make sure that you and your potential pet are a match. We take pet adoption very seriously.

Since we're non-profit, our rescues and adoptions continue with help from you. Please help us help them.

In addition to our adoption services, we also keep a list of people who want specific breeds or types of pets. Often a match can be made between available cats or dogs and adoptive families. We also provide a lost and found service and urge anyone in the local area who has lost or found an animal to contact us immediately, as well as the local animal shelter with a description of the animal. You can call us (574-753-5575) or email us.
