A Cause for Paws

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I adopt from A Cause for Paws?

Our main objective is to help stray animals that don't have a home and that otherwise would be taken to the shelter and be euthanized. Adopting from us you would be saving an animal's life or taking one that is no longer wanted. You also save money by adopting a pet that has already been spayed or neutered, and that has been already vaccinated and checked for diseases. They have been seen by a vet and when you adopt one of our animals you can be sure that they are healthy. Most of the animals that we offer are in our foster care, and so live in our homes, which helps us know more about their personalites, such as whether they get along with other pets and how they do with children.

How much does it cost to adopt an animal through "A Cause for Paws"?

Our adoption fees are $80 for dogs and $50 for cats. Keep in mind that when you adopt a pet through us, they are almost always already spayed/neutered if they are of age, and all of our animals have had all of their shots and been either heartworm tested (dogs over 6 months old) or leukemia tested (cats over 6 months old). The cost of this vet care is far more than our fees. When you adopt a pet from us you can rest assured that they are healthy and had good vet care already. We do suggest that you still take them to be seen by the vet after adopting them to set up future pet care. If you adopt a pet from us that hasn't been spayed/neutered, $20 will be refunded to you once you show us proof that the surgery has been done.

Why do you require that we spay/neuter our new pet that we have adopted from you?

There are far too many animals that are euthanized everyday because they are unwanted or there just aren't enough homes for them. Many animals are in shelters everywhere now wishing to have a home but instead will be put to sleep. We are not against responsible breeding, but we just don't wish to see any animal not being able to have a good home.

How do I go about adopting an animal from you?

We show animals at the Logansport Mall on Saturday between the hours of 11am and 5pm. Please see our "To Adopt" page for more information.

I have a stray animal that I need placement for. How can you help?

We do take in stray animals, and give them the vet care that they need, and then work to find them good homes. Unfortunately, we usually have a waiting list, and sometimes it can be long. You need to call us so we can put you on our waiting list. When we adopt out a dog or cat, a foster home opens up to take a new animal. We then can take the next stray on our list. Often we can't tell you how long it will be to be able to take in the stray, because it all depends on how many adoptions we have. If you can give foster care to the stray until we can take the animal into our foster care, we very much appreciate it. You also may find a home for the animal before we call you.

One thing that can speed up the process of finding a home is if you are willing to go the route that we require for owned animals in the next question. Our owned list is much shorter than our stray list. Please see our How We Can Help page for more information.

I have an owned pet that I can no longer keep. Can you help me find a good home for it?

Sometimes we don't have enough of our foster animals ready to fill our cages at the Adoption Center at the mall because they need tests, shots, or are being spayed/neutered. We will then call people with owned pets to bring their pets to be shown at the Adoption Center. You need to call us to get on the waiting list. We require that your pet has been heartworm tested (dogs older than 6 months) or feline leukemia tested (cats older than 6 months), is current on all of their vaccinations, and spayed or neurtered (if of age) before being shown at the Adoption Center. When we have an opening we will call you. If you still have your pet, we will need you to bring your pet to the Adoption Center at the Logansport Mall on Saturday morning between 10:00 and 10:30 but only with prior approval. You will need to bring vet papers showing what vaccinations and tests your pet has had (or show that they are on heartworm preventative if your pet is a dog) and that they have been spayed or neutered if they are of age. You will also be required to leave a $50 deposit. If your pet isn't adopted you will need to pick the pet up at around 5:00 to 5:30. You will get your deposit back. When your pet is adopted, you will be charged a $25 fee. Please see our How We Can Help page for more information.

How can I help?

There are numerous ways you can help! Many are found on our "About Us" page with more information. Following are some examples:

1. Foster an animal for us. For more info, click here.

2.Volunteer to help at the Adoption Center at the Logansport Mall. We need people on Saturdays to help show the animals, to walk the animals, etc.

3. Donations are always accepted. Money, food, time, etc. can be donated.

4. Become a member. We are always seeking new members who are in agreement with the mission we have set before us. We meet at the Logansport Mall at the Adoption Center every 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00pm. There is a $12 membership fee to be a member. Everyone is welcome to come to our meetings whether they are a member or not.

5. Help with fundraising. We have various fundraisers we do throughout the year.

6. Adopt an animal from us. Or if you know someone wanting to adopt an animal tell them about us.

7. Tell others about us. If you know someone that would like to foster, tell them to give us a call.
